Frequently Asked Questions

How much weight can a dumbwaiter hold? What size packages can it accommodate?
A dumbwaiter can carry up to 200 pounds and accommodate packages up to 30 inches high, depending on the model selected.
How much space do you need for a dumbwaiter?
A dumbwaiter requires a minimum of three feet wide and three feet deep for the shaftway.
How far can a dumbwaiter travel?
A dumbwaiter can transport items up to 50 feet.
Where is a dumbwaiter typically installed?
Frequently, a dumbwaiter is installed between the garage (lower level) and the kitchen (above) — but there are several installation options. To determine where a dumbwaiter can be added, we consider: available space (shaftway), function (where's it needed) and design (how it will look where it's placed).
How do I know if a dumbwaiter serves my needs or if a home elevator is a better option?
Contact us. We can review your plans, meet with you and suggest what would work best. You can also check out our Home Elevator information on this site and ask us to send a detailed design package by calling 800/888-5267 or emailing [email protected].
Can someone come see my home and talk with me about whether I can use a dumbwaiter — with no obligation?
We're happy to talk with you, no strings attached. Just call 800/888-5267 or email [email protected].
